'Tanks for that....

Another Epic update today, and its mostly just updating cards.  The Ork Gargant card (sheet 6) has had its armor value corrected.  And I've put the new Land Raider art on the appropriate Space Marine (sheets 4 and 7) and White Scar (sheet 1) PDFs.

Gallery Update

Some of the pictures I took at Kublacon 2007 have been added to the Gallery page.  Some have not been added due to my crappy ability as a photographer...

Also, I've updated Sheet 10 of the Epic Ork cards - fixing the stats of the Ork Kommandoes, which were all messed up for Armor, Firefight, and Close Combat.

Chaos Theory

The Black Legion page in the Epic section is now live, and the first sheet is posted.  Fairly general purpose - Retinue, Bike Company, and Armored Company.  I finally found a good side image of a Land Raider on the net that I used to make the new Chaos Land Raider silhouette.  I'll be going back and fixing a "clean" version back into the various Space Marine cards than require one, that's how much better the new one is.  Anyway, let me know what you think.

WAAAAAAAAGH!

Ghazghkull Mag Uruk Thraka's Ork War Horde is now done and read for your downloading pleasure.  I finished the upgrade cards (10 sheets!!!) after I called my dad this morning.  Happy Father's Day Dad!!!

I went through them pretty quick and corrected a couple small formatting errors from the previous set of cards.  If I've misprinted something of needs updating (as the Imperial Titans did) don't hesitate to let me know.

More Orks and other odds and ends

I've finished up the new Ork Formation cards, replaced the previous Imperial Titan sheet with a fixed one that has correct values for weapon range and BP on the Reaver and Warlord Titans (Thanks to The_Real_Chris for verification - see how far behind the times I am? ha!)  Added some art to the Feral Ork page, buttons for the upcoming Chaos armies, and built a Black Legion page, though the link isn't live yet as I don't have but one card done.  When I finish a full sheet I'll activate the links.

I saw "Fantastic 4: Rise of the Silver Surfer" Friday night, its definitely much cooler than the first movie - if you like the superhero films that have been coming out in the last several years, you'll like this one.  I'm still waiting for DC to put out a Legion of Superheroes film - c'mon guys!

Lastly, pay attention to your dad's tomorrow - give them a call, give them a hug, let them know they're appreciated.  They won't be around forever.

Ta!

Additional Ork preview

Added 2 more sheets to the Ork page; Kults of Speed and Blitz Brigades.

12 June 2007 update

Ork preview

I haven't gotten a whole lot of feedback on this idea yet so I thought I'd give a look.  There's a preview on the Ork page for the new warband cards.  I'm wondering if players would prefer a different card for different sized mobs - big, 'uge, normal.  Let me know what you think.

Hold The Line!

If there's cheap troops you need for a meat grinder, you won't get much better than the Imperial Guard's Baran Siegemasters.  Specialists in trench warfare, fortifications, and just plain outlasting their enemies, the guardsmen of Baran are masters of the Siege.  These cards are now available for download.

The Siegemasters didn't have a symbol I could find, do I've added my own art as a Baran symbol.  It looks guard-ish and definitely evokes the specialty of fortifications.  Hope you all enjoy!

I saw "Ocean's 13" Sunday evening, I was a little disappointed.  This movie went into the realm of fiction a little too much.  Drilling machines making an earthquake?  OK, first of all they're supposed to be "the ones that drilled the Chunnel".  They can bring one in all on one truck.  And when one breaks down, (a plot excuse to bring in a partner with money they didn't really want) a new one is brought in for a mere $36 million.  Dispelling that illusion, is the fact that A) there were as many as eleven Chunnel drilling machines some of which are still in place, under the English Channel, buried in the Earth B) they were as big as 200 meters long and required hundreds if not thousands of workers to operate and C) with a project cost in the billions, I'm sure that they all cost more than $36 million.  And hey, where's all the earth going that they're digging out?

Plus the sound in my theater was bad...it almost sounded like it was in old fashioned stereo...nothing coming out of the surrounds at all.  No music, no ambient noise from the casinos, nothing.  This was auditorium #3 at Century 14 in Roseville, CA.  Step it up, Century Theaters.

Also missing from the movies were the women!  Julia Roberts and Catherine Zeta Jones did not appear, too bad.  Catherine, if you ever get tired of Michael Douglas, I'm your man!

Not so Fast!

Well, actually, em, they are kind of fast.  I'm speaking, of course, about the new set of Eldar army cards, representing the Biel-Tan Craftworld.  For those that have the old set, there is a new version of a card you might like better - the Engine of Vaul Card.  The back has been changed so that one card has the stats for all 4 types of Eldar Super-Heavy Grav-Tanks.  There are still two types, with different silhouettes on the fronts.  For those not familiar with my previous set of cards, you may have noticed the symbols at the bottom of the cards which generally represent the category the troop fist into e.g., "Fast Attack" or "Elites".  Well, the Eldar are fans of symbols and so there's lots of different ones, especially for aspect warriors.  Make sure you check the backs of your Exarch cards; one type is for melee-type Exarchs and the other type is for shooty-type Exarchs.  Also, the symbols for the Eldar superheavies and Eldar aerospace are of my own creation.

Also, I've added the Imperial support cards to the Space Marines, White Scars, and Steel Legion pages.  Now you can include Titan and Air support cards with your armies.

I haven't heard if any Ork players out there would prever different cards for the big and 'uge formation cards.  Slip me an email if this is something you'd like to see.

The Big Guns

Yes, that's right, the might of the Imperial war machine can now be fully brought to bear, now that the Steel Legion army cards are done.

While I was doing these, I caught myself wondering, if anybody would like little company-specific markers to be used on the tabletop? like "Ultramarines 4th company", or something...a little folding tent, maybe 1" square, that you can put by your troops? it would have the particular company symbol or something...anyway, thought I'd throw that out there.

Enjoy!

Whew!

Wow.  I survived May...yikes, that's scary.  May was uber-slammed.  Between lots and lots of Real Life, a lot of slot zeroes, yet another convention (Kublacon!!!) I didn't have much time to spend keeping the site updated, and it showed.  Overall traffic was down by about 1000 page views from the previous 3 months, which is a reduction of about 20% or so.  I'm hoping I'll have plenty of new stuff this month to keep you occupied.

There's quite a few new models coming in the pipeline for ACTA: the Hurr Gunship, an Abbai Dreadnought (shudder!), and more Brakiri than you can shake a stick at.  And to top that off, ACTA: 2nd Edition is just a couple months away.  Still no word from Mongoose about pre-printed sheets for ships, but I wouldn't count on it.  I'm expecting something similiar to SFOS myself, in terms of layout.  So, I'm sure the community will rise up and put together some kind of sheets or cards again (sigh).

Kublacon was just a slamfest of stuff.  King of the Jumpgate III (formerly IV) went of fairly smoothly.  With an odd number of players I stepped in again and became an unscoring 6th player, so like last year, I don't have a lot of detailed info to put together like I did for KOTJ I.  We had one walk-in player, who showed with a Narn Fleet (that had not one but two Bin-Tak Dreadnoughts...) and I think everyone had a great time.  There were 2 Narn fleets, 2 EA fleets (both 3rd age, one of which was mine), 1 Shadow Fleet, and 1 Minbari Fleet.

The Shadows dominated, of course, and with Reuben Smith aka RabidChild (our local MI!) at the helm took 1st place.  2nd place and Best Painted went to Erik Nicely aka Lowly Ulhan, who came all the way from San Diego to play.  3rd place went to Colin Dimock's Minbari Fleet, which was only slightly behind for best painted.  Our Best Sportsman award went to Claude LeCesne, who brought a great Narn Fleet and was an absolute joy to play against.  Pictures of the event will follow in  a couple days.  My camera was acting up and I have a lot of lighting to fix on the pictures.

What I enjoyed most about this year's event was every player was new to the tournaments.  Claude I had gotten hooked at the demo at the previous Kublacon, but this was his first tournament.  If I can get all the players together from the various events at Kubla 2008, that could be a very good sized tournament indeed.  12-14 players!!  Next year will probably be a 4 round tournament, and if there's an odd player then there will be a method for "bye" scoring.  I'm already planning, so it's looking good.  And I already have prizes!  Thanks to Alex Fennel!

The rest of Kublacon was spent mostly running Living Greyhawk RPGA games, my other hobby.  I GM'd 6 and played in 2.  We had a great convention from an RPGA standpoint; lots of new players, some great interactive adventures by Steve Kendall (written in a very compressed time frame!!!) and a lot of organization-fu by one of our Triad, Shelton.  Thanks Shelton!!!!

Hope to see you all next time - maybe I can reach out and draw some of the Chicago players to KOTJ IV....  :)

Anyway, for this update I've decided to go back and put up some Epic Cards that have been lacking attention in the last several months, so enjoy the White Scars Space Marine Chapter Epic Cards!
